60 over Sixty

Borrowing a term from Chitra Nayak, I am “graduating” from full-time work and entering into a portfolio career.
What is a Portfolio Career?
A portfolio career is not a new concept. Back in 2021, HBR published an article titled “Why You Should Build a “Career Portfolio” (Not a “Career Path”) which encapsulates the essence of why I am embarking on this journey.
“…a career portfolio is a never-ending source of discovery and fulfilment.”
“…represents your vast and diverse professional journey, including the various twists and turns, whether made by choice or by circumstance.” (Fits perfectly with my Be Like Water theme)
“It reflects your professional identity and potential. It includes your unique combination of skills, experiences, and talents that can be mixed, matched, and blended in different ways.”
Reflecting on the past decade, I realized I have been managing a portfolio career since I’ve held board roles for both for-profit and non-profit organizations in addition to my full-time work. Now I am simply dropping the full-time aspect to make space for more board and advisory roles.
What in the Name?
I missed the boat for 30 under 30. Sara Jane, Qiyun, Sai, and Natalie, are some of the young achievers who continue to inspire me.
The experiences I've built from 30 to 60 will help me live a rich and purposeful “Third Act” a term Jane Fonda used to describe reaching the age of 60 in her TED talk.
60 will be my KPI—whether it's meeting 60 new people, writing 60 chapters of a book, sharing 60 career hacks, identifying 60 meaningful measures to drive impact, doing 60 things that can help 60 people, or exploring 60 habits that enable us to live a healthy and meaningful Third Act.
I want to embrace 60, pivoting from negative ageism to positive awesomeness.
Hold me accountable for my KPI. (P.S. still have a bit of time before I turn 60, but I am a planner!)
Do you have a topic for me to explore and to fulfil my 60 over 60 theme?
