Do We Have the Means to Live a Healthy 100-year Life?

Updated: Aug 9, 2021

Our March 2021 Inner Circle Conversation was The 100 Year Life. Today, we are living on average 34 years longer than our great-grandparents. Do we have the means to live a healthy 100-year life?

There is a global retirement time bomb, On average, individuals will outlive their savings by between eight and 20 years. The retirement age will need to go up to minimize the impact when pension systems come crashing down. Safeguarding financial wellness will take into consideration the tangible assets (savings, property) as well as intangible assets such as health & career readiness to work longer.

As we redesign retirement, we will need to redesign work too. Why did Jeff Bezos step down as CEO of Amazon in a bumper year? Diana Wu David said, “the focus on impact and reinvention is the new career trajectory of the 21st century.” Do we have the skills to work beyond retirement and to live successfully in this new longer life?

Jane Fonda found an appropriate metaphor for aging is a staircase – the upward ascension of the human spirit, bringing us into wisdom, wholeness, and authenticity. Most people over 50 feel better.

So this group will set aside some “Kick-Ass Money” to mount the staircase to our Third Act in life (even though it’s not coming too soon).
